When a friend came to me asking for ideas for her nearly potty trained toddler who needed something for night time that didn't seem like a diaper I came up with these training petals. Basically they are like layered mama cloth.
To make them I drew up a pattern on newspaper a little large and placed in the child's underwear and kept trimming till it fit (+seam allowance). I asked the mom to bring a pair one size to big.
From there I made 3 petal style soakers of undies size. My inspiration was mama cloth. I could have used just one petal but her child has large night accidents and I only had flannel on hand. You can use any absorbent fabrics and 1-3 petals as needed.
The bottom petal is backed in blizzard fleece and has wings (like mama cloth). One of the flannel layers also has the wings. The wings have Velcro to secure in place inside the undies. Best part is my friends daughter never felt like she was wearing diapers because they don't look like diapers.
